This week’s Economist is all about Humanity 2.0 with their ‘Rise of the Superhuman’ edition. The main point of this story is that human enhancement could be real, but it’s currently too foggy because it’s a mixture of real science and snake oil. They call for governments to intervene so that faster trials, regulations and rigorous quality control can happen to make a better distinction between the real stuff and the quackery. This would, in their view, lead to an increase in investment into the sector and a more honest treatment of consumers. Great take.
Both GQ and NYT wrote about exercises to help you live longer. GQ focuses on squats and lunges, New York Times focused on plyometrics which are explosive movements. Squats are foundational, explosive movements are important for power, bone density, balance and coordination. Think medicine ball slams, jumping rope, jumps in general, A skips.
The returned astronauts won 0.0075 seconds of life, as space slows down ageing. They’re also taller now.
Men, please get your skin checked more regularly. Two out of every three melanoma deaths are in men, which doctors say is due to non-proactive behaviour, not biology.
I’m obsessed with this surgical steel toothbrush. Watch toxic-free living become the number one longevity hack this year.
